Postnatal Doula Support
A postnatal is a non-judgmental woman with a quiet presence in your home.
I offer emotional and practical support following the birth of your baby. My work is all about empowering your family to take care of itself and I facilitate this by offering encouragement and suggestions as well as providing a supportive home environment to enable you as a mother to develop your own mothering skills in a relaxed and stress-free manner.
I have a wide knowledge of the many different methods and philosophies on raising children and will use this information to help you discover how you want to do things. I don't believe there is just 'one-way' of doing things and encourage new mothers to develop their own philosophies and to follow their instincts. I am not there to tell you what to do!
I provide suggestions and help around infant feeding along with practical newborn tips. I will give you space to discuss any concerns and issues and I generally offer a source of information and companionship.
I am very flexible and my role is to support you and your partner with the day to day running of your household so that you can concentrate on getting to know your new baby.
I offer a free consultation to talk about my services further and answer any questions. This can take place in the comfort of your home or via Skype.
As a member of Doula UK I also have access to the Doula Access Fund which has been setup to assist towards the cost of hiring a doula. Here is a list of some of the services my previous clients have found helpful:
Routine newborn care, guidance of the parents in bathing, calming techniques, sleeping patterns and newborn development.
Breastfeeding and/or formula feeding support.
Household tasks including laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping and meal preparation.
Day to day maintenance of the house - changing light bulbs, putting pre-packed furniture together and descaling kettles.
Care of older siblings.
Accompany mother and baby to any appointments or shopping trips.
Running errands.
Accompany and support the family during seasonal holidays.
Testimonials:
"Due to surgery the day after my daughter was born it was obvious I was going to need support at home. Having a four year old boy to look after and a new born baby is no mean feat let alone when recovering from surgery. Luckily my health visitor told me to look for a post natal doula. I had heard of doulas before to help with labour but didn't realise that they can also provide post natal support. Kicki was fantastic from the start, getting Jake dressed, playing fun games with him and taking him to the park, simple things that I just couldn't do at the time. Having someone to talk to was a big help as well, discussing Isabelle's feeding issues and Kicki's general advice was great. I'm not sure that I would have got through those first few weeks quite as well without Kicki's support, it really made a big difference to my recovery." Sarah
"Kicki Hansard has worked with us as our doula since my son was born. I can't fully express the comfort that a professional, experienced doula such as Kicki can bring. So much more than a nurse or nanny, Kicki provides a full service of child "love" as opposed to "care", suggestions on feeding/sleeping, practical support around the house (Kicki even put furniture together for us) and emotional support when the going gets tough. Kicki, although one of the most experienced and high profile doulas in the UK, is extremely humble, no job is too small and she always is efficiently busy. In addition, Kicki has an easy, great personality and for anyone concerned about having a "stranger" in your home or having to make conversation, Kicki is easy going and fun to have around. I would highly recommend Kicki's services for anyone that wants to provide the very best start to their child and wants to live their life too!" Dr Samantha Collins, CEO Aspire Coaching and Training LTD
"I honestly don't know what we would have done without Kicki in the early weeks after we had our baby. She was the mother I didn't have, totally non-judgemental and supportive, always on my side, ultimately giving me the confidence to look after my baby on my own. The best thing was that she didn't make me dependent on her, as a maternity nurse would have done, and instead focused on getting me through the transition to being a Mummy. She also gave me and my husband some much-needed time off - whilst managing to tidy the house, do the washing and ironing, and de-scale the kettles!" SW
"Kicki worked as my postnatal doula in 2006. She is extremely professional and knowledgeble about the needs of new mums and their babies. She is very supportive and uses her experience to help mothers do the mothering. She is a helpful, relaxed and easy going person, whom it was a pleasure to have in my home." Hannah
"Kicki Hansard has been a blessing to our family, and I have a deep appreciation for her professionalism and nurturing skills from a man's perspective. While I recognize her extraordinary abilities as a doula, they go far beyond this. She earned our complete trust from the moment we first met and had the courage to tell us the truth about any situation, even if it may have been something we did not want to hear. She has also given us the gift of time - quality time to spend together as a family by being able to see what needs to be done, and then just doing it! She's always looking for ways do things that free up our time. She's even assembled furniture for us, and in doing so provided me with even more quality time to spend with my family. Kicki is now considered part of our family and will always hold a special place in our hearts. She helped us in so many ways to make the first few precious months with our new baby boy so much pleasure, less stressful and more memorable." Robert Silverstone, President & CEO, Silverstone Consulting Inc. "Kicki was our post natal doula in 2007 and I can never thank Kicki enough for her expertise and hands-on practical approach provided through the first few stages of parenthood. We turned to Kicki well beyond the pre-birth / post birth stage. Not only was she there for us providing emotional and practical support in the first few weeks, but also help us work through all challenges that our little one threw at us in the first year (breast feeding difficulties, routine changes as baby grew, rejecting bottle, weaning, refusing lumpy foods and more!). Kicki's knowledge, experience, professionalism and support was a great asset to our family and I have no hesitations in recommending her. I completely credit Kicki with giving me the strength and support I needed once I became a new mum." Mrs S
